How did the birth of the brand BabyStar come about?
ANNA KOS: In the beginning there was my own experience – as so often happens. I was pregnant but still wanted to wear clothes that were fashionable and feminine. Seemingly hopeless: Everything I found would fit the type “Maya the Bee” in overalls. Born out of this necessity I had a few stylish items tailored for me. And I imagined that there must be other women who would like to feel sexy and attractive during their pregnancy.
What is so very special about BabyStar?
ANNA KOS: All pieces of the collection grow along with the belly. To achieve this we choose exclusive materials that are elastic without going baggy after a while. Our message is: Women can be pregnant and still be sexy and feminine. Why hide the belly? There is nothing more wonderful than carrying life inside of you. That’s what we want to express - through timeless and at the same time extravagant patterns.

How important is the quality of the material you are using?
ANNA KOS: Very important. Together with our experienced designer, Sabine Chantzaras, we purchase the material in Paris. Basic material is a jersey with an environmental certificate – guaranteed to be free of harmful substances. This is of particular importance to us. And this is also very important to us: BabyStar is an Austrian product, designed by an Austrian, produced in a Styrian tailor shop – a small firm that meets our high demand for quality. Insofar BabyStar is “Made in Austria“ – “Austrian Couture“ with a high potential for growth all the way around. Literally (laughs).
